ANNA VAN DEN HOEVEL

Anna van den Hoevel is a German painter whose evocative work fuses visual mementos from her travels with emotional responses to place, perception and nature.

Using bird’s-eye view photographs of landscapes from around the world as her foundational visual lexicon, her process-driven practice combines acrylic painting with materials such as reused varnish, earth, and mortar. Raised between Munich, the Austrian alps, and the coast of Menorca, van den Hoevel’s curiosity for diverse environments both natural and cultural emerge in her abstract paintings as explorations of light, materiality and the sublime.

She attended art school in England, receiving an IB at Sidcot School. She has traveled across all continents and exhibited work in Europe, North America, China and South Africa.
